DNAinfo Scoops Increasingly Pathetic Sun-Times Entertainment Staff

Time was, the Chicago Sun-Times had a top-notch staff for covering local entertainment.  Things have gotten so bad with poorly conceived budget cuts, not to mention promoting hack writers into positions of responsibility, that the CST cannot keep up with low budget efforts such as DNAinfo Chicago.

Case in point:  the historic Patio Theater that is converting from showing new garbage from Hollywood to showing classic films from yesteryear.  You would think that the CST would be all over this story given the Patio's historic stature and importance in Chicago entertainment history.

Nope.  Neither the CST or its pathetic "competition" the Chicago Tribune have covered the Patio Theater and its troubles, leaving the story all to the electronic medium.

As if to show just how lazy and/or undermanned the CST local news team is, a month ago, DNAinfo Chicago published a most interesting story pertaining Chicago's seamy underside and tourists' interest in that history.  A full month later, the CST has yet to respond with an article of its own.

The Bears have been playing poorly this season.  This is the worst 4-2 team that anybody can remember watching.

Don't tell that to Mark Potash.  The dimwitted Bears "sportswriter" is just another Public Relations flack pretending to be a serious journalist.  He talks about "image repair" and how the team wants to "set record straight."  That last quote came but 2 days before the Bears humiliated themselves before the fans at Soldier Field by narrowly outlasting the lowly New York Giants.

Lori Rackl Sportswriter

Lately, CST TV Reviewer Lori Rackl has entered Sports writing from a TV perspective.  Sometime ago she reviewed Jay Cutler's performance on a stupid TV show and found him to be "funny."  More recently she has written about the Blackhawks surprising TV ratings.  This may seem like the sort of stuff that TV writers would normally do, but at the CST, TV writers have feared to tread on the Sports staff who , in turn, have never been interested in such things.

The Emmy Awards are all over and done with, but what stands out as most disappointing is Lori Rackl's race based coverage.  Instead of going for color blindness, Rackl chose to go for the racial jugular implying that black actresses such as Kerry Washington are so inferior to white actresses such as Claire Danes that they need to be awarded the Emmy Award solely for just showing up on the ballot.

Indeed, Rackl says that Danes is "amazing" in her role, but Washington deserved to win solely because of her skin color.

DNAInfo Scoops the Daily Rags on Stanley Cup Visits

The Cup wound its way through seven of the 31 businesses along Clark Street that were damaged by raucous crowds celebrating the Hawks Stanley Cup victory in late June.

If this does not show that the Blackhawks are a classy outfit, then I don't know what does.

CST Has Abandoned Canine Coverage for Hollywood Celebrities

Once again, DNAInfo Chicago has scooped the CST.  And has done in one of the CST's strong points:  canine coverage.  Time was the CST ran the popular, not to mention excellent Ask Dog Lady column.  Due to the CST's increasing obsession with Hollywood celebrities, quality services such as Canine Massage Chicago get the short shrift as do dog owners.

On September 11th, Erin Meyer of DNAImfo reported that Willie Robinson, 54, was arrested by the CPD for selling ammunition along one of Mayor Rahm's much vaunted school "safe passage routes."  The CST has failed to report this story despite the fact that many of its readers would be interested in it.  

Bias is found in nt only the way that stories are written, but also in which subjects are approved for publication in the first place.

CST Whitewashed Frederik Pohl Obituary

When the cheap hack sci-fi writer Frederik Pohl passed away last September 2 2013, hardly any science fiction fans mourned his passing.  Those who knew Pohl were well aware of just what a hyprocrite he was. For instance, he claimed to be against racism, yet he was deeply prejudicial against nonwhite people.  He never knowingly accepted the work of anyone who was not white.  The one and only time he accepted the work of a black person, Samuel R. Delaney, came when Delaney was unknown and Pohl accepted the man's fiction, not realizing that it was by a black man.  Pohl never made that mistake again, insisting that all those who submitted work include a photograph of themselves.  Pohl claimed that this was so he could gaze into the sriter's "soul," but everyone who knew him knew otherwise.

The CST called Pohl a "progressive" which is how elitist Liberals like to style themselves nowadays.  Pohl was an elitist shoe claimed to be open minded, yet was as deeply prejudicial, if not more so, than any of those "reactionaries" that he claimed to despise.

Frederik Pohl will not be missed.

The CST's Trashing of John Philbin

Truly the CST's hatred of labor unions knows no bounds.  Earlier this year, the CST hailed the late Michael Wood of the Mafia-controlled Boilermaker's Union as being a "union president," despite the fact that he was the scum of the earth..  In the Ausust 11, 2013 issue of the CST, hapless hack writer Casey Toner trashed the late John Philbin of the Chicago Mailer's Union as being a "union boss."  This despite the complete lack of evidence linking Philbin to nay kind of corruption or to any sort of Mafia ties.  You see, Philbin represented employees of the CST and the CST big shots resented him for that and literally could not wait for him to be buries before they could trash him.

CST Trashes Labor Unions One Day Before Labor Day

Paul Kersey of the "non-partisan" Illinois Policy Institute is a union-hating hack writer.  Worse, he trashes the freedom to work  movement that upholds the idea that folks should not be forced to join unions against their will by endorsing it.  Kersey makes it clear that he hates working class people and the unions that represent them.  For instance, he makes the baseless assertion that unions were responsible for 760 workers being laid off at Caterpillar.  He conveniently leaves out the facts that Caterpillar has been reaping record profits and its CEO has been rolling in luxury to the tune of $18 Mil. a year.  However, Kersey makes it clear that he believes that it is wrong for the workers whose hard work and sacrifice made it possible for the company to reap such large profits and CEO to live in such luxurious splendor to share in the wealth themselves.  Kersey believes that blue collar workers are all scum who deserve nothing except a kick in the head and to be looked down and spit upon.

And yet the Chicago Sun-Times pollutes its ages by giving this jackass a soapbox to expound his anti-working class hatred.

Shame on the CST.

Roswell & the Everlasting Shame of the "Mainstream Media"

In early July 1947, something crashed near the U.S. Air Force base at Roswell, New Mexico.  Officially, it was a weather balloon.  However, there were folks in the community as well at the base itself who believed that something from another world had crashed at Roswell instead.

What happened next was nothing short of bizarre.  The Air Force Chief of Staff personally flew all the way from Washington, D.C., to check out the scene.  He then personally supervised both the cleaning up of the wreckage and the subsequent transportation of the wreckage 1,700 miles across the USA all the way to an Air Force base in Ohio.  There the wreckage was placed in a hangar, Hangar #18 to be precise.   Once done, the wreckage completely disappeared from the official record.  There is not even so much as a single surviving document that even so much as mentions  the wreckage after i was placed inside Hangar #18.  .

As you can tell, the official story just simply does not make any sense.  If the wreckage was simply that of a mere weather balloon, then why did the U.S. Air Force go to all this hassle?  Why is there no further mention of this wreckage even though it was transported over nearly 2,000 miles?  These questions, and many others, have bothered a great many folks who believe, with good reason, that the U.S. Government has not been honest with them.

And what was the role of the so-called "Mainstream Media" including the Chicago Sun-Times?  It has unmercifully trashed all those who dare to ask questions of what the U.S. Government has done in their name, with their hard earned taxpayer dollars.  You see, anyone who does not automatically drink the Official Kool-Aid is a "crackpot" whose ideas have no merit whatsoever.

And then the "Mainstream Media" wonders just why they have so little credibility in the eyes of the American people.

I am officially resigning my status as a member of
House Forsaken. I have met many friends here, but I
must take my leave now.

I've never been really good at being subtle, so I'll
be blunt. I can't stand to be affiliated with a house
that cannot fulfill its own rules. In light of recent
events, this is the first time in my three years of
membership that I have been ashamed of being a member
of this community, and since nothing seems to be in
the works as a solution, I bid you all adieu.

As for my "leaving" that did not come about until 5 days later when I was formally expelled from HF under the direct orders of HF's Founder-Leader UsuRpeR who made an incredibly vitriolic post, that among other things, claimed that I was 100 times worse than Hitler. I really wanted remain in HF at least until TDZK would reset when I would form a new alliance and take as many of the HF recruits from SMR & TDZK as I could with me. By the time of my expulsion, I was already talking to many of these recruits such as Bakito, Bink, Chaortis, Desert Fox, Dragonte & Sgili, conversations that would eventually lead to the founding of the Knights of the Galaxy (KOG).

However, the KOG is another story for another time.

A little known fact is that the great browser based game TDZK that flourished during the years 2001-2007 was created by 2 members of the House Forsaken multi-game clan, Jerle & Hotaru. Both of these worthies had been members of the House Forsaken alliance in Space Merchant that played under the name of the "Trex Mercenaries." TDZK was inspired by Space Merchant and was soon a much better game than what SM ever was. However, there was a problem: getting their follow HF members into the game. Back in the Fall of 2001, in one of TDZK's earliest rounds, if not in fact its very first round, there was a Top Ten ranked HF alliance under StormFire aka the longtime #3 guy in all of HF. HF then failed to maintain an alliance in TDZK for over a year.

Finally, after some prodding from Jerle & Hotaru I decided to take HF into TDZK. To do that I first had to resign as the in-game leader of the HF alliance in SMR and hand over the position to my talented protege there, Omega Renegade. Then I posted to both the HF Browser Based Gaming (BBG) Realm & the General Discussion Forum (GDF) about taking HF back into TDZK. Posting on the GDF proved to be a mixed blessing since while it attracted a number of talented players to the game, it also attracted the interest of a senior HF member named Jewel who proved to be both a cheater as well an incredibly ineffective alliance leader and an idiot to boot.

However, the HF alliance initially thrived. For instance it moved up in the alliance rankings from #49 to #39 in just one day. Meanwhile, our close allies the Shadow Knights (SK's) under Malhavoc also moved up the alliance rankings from #65 to #42 in just about one day was well. Recruiting went so well that we set up a new alliance, House Forsaken 2, that served as a recruit/training alliance. I decided to make myself the leader of HF2. I still remained the overall leader of the HF forces in TDZK. My preference for the leadership of the main HF alliance was an experienced veteran of BBG's such as either DarkFlare or DracoLichB, however both declined the honor. Since Jewel really wanted that position and his shortcomings were not yet apparent, he was picked.

Both of the House Forsaken alliances along with the SK's rapidly became a force to be reckoned with. According to my notebook from this time (Yes I still have my gaming notebooks from such games as Diaspora, Dominion, Merchant Empires, Planetarion, Quest for Yap, Solar Empire, Space Merchant & SM's wretched "close clone" SMR & SpaceDog's unsuccessful Trade Wars like BBG The Merchant among others. Do you?), the main HF alliance ranked #19 while HF 2 ranked #22 and the SK's ranked #28. However disaster struck in mid-March, 2003, Jerle informed me on ICQ (In a conv that I inexplicably failed to cut & paste to email) that he had, and not for the first time, caught both Hyperion & Jewel running multi's. On top of that, he also caught Hyperion right in the act in some other act of something even worse than mere cheating: Hyperion was using his multi-account in a childish attempt to start a war between the HF/SK forces and a powerful alliance called Iron Ring. And this despite the fact that we were already in a war with the powerful Dark Realms alliance.

It was at precisely this point that everything went to Hell.

Rolling Stone's Questionable Piece About Aaron Hernandez

While its true that Aaron Hernandez is a disgraceful person, Rolling Stone is even worse.  The terrorist-loving magazine has just come out with a sleazy article about Hernandez that the Boston Globe has found to be riddled with factual inaccuracies, if not outright lies.

Basically the RS trash piece claimed that Hernandez wasa heavy duty Angel Dust user and that Patriots Coach Bill Belichek both knowingly and willfully aided and abetted Hernandez's drug addiction and other crimes.

Articles like these are a disgrace to sports writing.  Rolling Stone needs to be put out of business the sooner the better.

The CST's Predictable Elitist Liberalism

One of the worst, though most persistent, aspects of the CST is its all too predictable elitist Liberalism.  Time and time again, the CST runs biased "news" articles on such subjects as abortion, gun control, homosexuality, stuff making the Chicago Fire & Police departments look bad and other controversial subjects in which the only quoted sources are those that take the positions of the CST Editorial Page.  Dissent from Liberalism is verboten in the CST to the point that even the one and only non-Liberal columnist, Steve Huntley, is careful not to offend any of his Liberal superiors.

One recent example of came in the Aug. 17th issue of the CST in the form of an article by former Fox News producer Jordan Chariton that claimed that the #1 ranked FNC owed its dominance to its following among senile old people.  Chariton claimed that unless FNC moved to the left and became no different than the other news networks, then FNC was doomed to die once those allegedly senile old folks died.

Once again, the CST pushing the notion that only Liberals can be considered intelligent, that all Conservatives are stupid or worse and that only by embracing the left wing, can one hope to have any lasting success.

CST Will Likely Gloat over Tebow's NFL Career Ending While NFL Continues Loading up on Hardened Criminals

If there is one thing that has been consistent over the CST's sports pages its the overwhelming hatred of Tim Tebow.  Tebow, you see, is a good Christian and, according to the sports writers, that's a bad thing.  No, only criminals should be allowed to play pro sports while the sportswriters wring their hands and pretend that they are bothered by all the steroids use going on.  Come Sunday and later on, there will be gloating over Tebow's demise by the likes of Hub Arkush & the 2 Ricks.

Meanwhile, there will be sadness amongst those who still cling to the belief that pro sports players ought to be role models for the youth of America.

Mary Mitchell Strikes Again

Once again, in the August 25th 2013 issue of the CST, has once again pushed vile black racist propaganda.  This coming from the woman who once claimed that the reason that hard working folks were against tax increases was due to "racism."  This time around, she joined in the cynical exploitation of 9 year old Asean Johnson for purely partisan purposes.  Johnson was forced to read a speech consisting of words that no 9 year old could ever understand at tbhe 50th Anniversary of the so-called March on Washington that was originally carried out by the infamous adulterer Martin Luther King.

Shame on Mitchell for this cynical act.

CST Fulfills Rahm's Bidding

Say this much for the CST:  Even as the circulation constantly declines, it remains slavishly devoted to pushing Mayor Rahm's agenda.  Rahm Emanuel has been working feverishly to trash the Fraternal Order of Police and its stalwart leader Mike Shields.  The CST routinely calls Shields a "union boss" without ever providing any proof that Shields has ever been any kind of tyrant or has in any way been corrupt i his handling of union business.

Shame on the CST nincompoops for their repeated violation of journalistic integrity regarding the police.

Chicago Theater Review Scandal

One of the areas in which the Chicago news media, including the CST,  is at its most deficient is that of local theater reviews. Basically, there has been little effort made to review local productions. Instead, the only plays that have much of a chance of getting a review are big budget productions that come directly from Broadway. Even many of those never get reviewed. The only way that a local production has a chance of getting reviewed is if a member of the local media is involved with it.

The irony of all this is that Chicago news media types, such as radio talk show hosts, are always complaining about how “uncultured” Chicagoans are. Well, these media types should get out of the building, smell the flowers and check out the local cultural offerings. However, since it is always pleasing to the egos of the elitist pigs to dump on Chicago and the people of Chicago, do not expect anything like this to happen soon, if ever.

Either the CST's so-called "theater critic" Hedy Weiss should get off her duff or the paper's management should show her out the door.  Don't hold your breath for that to happen though.

Aaron Swartz Was a Real Scumbag

Hacking is the same thing as breaking and entering one's home. As Declan McCullough wrote back in the late 1990's, there is no such thing as "hacktivism", only vandalism.

What gets me about this case is the way that his father has been acting. He talks as if MIT committed a great sin by alerting law enforcement to his son's crimes.

He was recently the subject of an article in the Chicago Sun-Times as saying that MIT needed to apologize for its actions and to do what his son wanted them to do: make journal articles and academic journals free of charge. Given the fact that academic journals are pretty expensive to publish, if they were made free, pretty soon there would be no more academic journals around.

Aaron Swartz was a scumbag no different than kidnappers and other kinds of violent hoodlums.

House Forsaken is Dead

In the early days of Solar Empre, June-October, 1999 House Forsaken was the mightiest clan in the game.  At least that is until the likes of the Evil Empire, TalkHouse & the Trex Mercenaries showed up.  Even then, HF's position was strong enough that in January 2000 SE creator/developer/operator Bryan Livingston awarded them their own SE game that was admined by HF members.  HF was also a multi-game outfit that also had strong clans in other major online games such as at Battle.net and in Everquest.

However, HF succumbed to hubris and became too big for its britches.  This happened in March, 2003 in the game of  TDZK that was created/developed/operated by HF members Jerle & Hotaru.  In that game 2 HF members, one of whom named Hyperion had played SE under the name of HY and who had originally  been a HF recruit in SE (and if a certain story is true played SE with HF back in late 1999 under the name of -=WindKull=-), were caught brazenly cheating.  In a related incident in the same month, Hyperion committed treason by destroying a HF planet (Planet OMGN).

Since HF prided itself as being a clan that claimed to have honor at the very core of its being and repeatedly used the idea that it was a honorable outfit in its recruiting that was firmly opposed to cheating, one have thought that the HF leadership would have come down hard on the cheaters.  Instead the opposite happened.  The leadership acted as if nothing bad happened and that, if anything, the real culprits were those who brought the cheating to the attention of the clan.  Additionally, the leadership failed to provide even the slightest discipline to Hyperion for his SE treason.

The end result of all this was the mass resignation of almost every member of the HF Browser-Based Gaming Realm (about half of the membership of ) and with that the single most active unit within HF ceased to exist.  From that point on, HF went into a state of decline and fall and after years of being little more than a glorified "forum clan" has ceased to exist.

Yes, I too have a very big problem with Mona Charen. She recently wrote a very bad article on her visit too Scotland. In this article she painted Scotland and the people of Scotland in a very bad and unfair way. There is a lot taking place in Scotland right now as they work towards regaining their Independence from Great Britain. Clearly, she is very unaware of the issues the Scottish people are facing in trying to regain their Independence. I am an American Scot who is very aware of the issues at hand there in Scotland taking place over the Independence campaign.

Yesterday, I wrote the Chicago Sun Times about my feelings on Miss. Charen's article and about the matters Scotland is facing regarding the Independence campaign. I also told them who I was too Scotland as a American Scot. I am from one of Scotland's oldest Clan families. In a Independent Scotland I would technically be a Clan Princess to the House of Langton. My last name is Cogburn/ Cockburn. My great, great grandfather changed the name from Cockburn to Cogburn.

Now, there is a lot taking place in Scotland at this moment in time. They need American support. I as an American who belongs to this important family has been doing my level best to get the information Scotland has given me regarding the Independence campaign into the American media. I hope the Chicago Sun Times will read the letter I sent them yesterday about how wrong and in distaste Miss. Charen's article was written in. I am in hope that they will take the time to talk too me a person who is much more informed about Scotland and the issues Scotland is facing. If, they for not. CST Messed up its Karen Black Obituary

Karen Black passed away recently and as usual the news media messed things up as shown by the obituary in the August 9th Chicago Sun-Times.  The paper's piece focused on Blacks few major motion picture credits.  As everyone familiar with Black's career knows, it was in made for TV movies and low budget movies that she really shined.

Black starred in such classic flicks as Burnt Offerings, Killer Fish, Killing Heat,  The Hooker Cult Murders & Trilogy of Terror.  To be sure, Black also had her share of turkeys such as Airport 1975, Capricorn One, House of 1000 Corpses, Invaders from Mars & The Day of the Locust.

Karen Black most definitely will be missed.

The "Sports Final" Fraud

If you look at page 58 of the August 14th 2013  CST, you will find that of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball, fully 24 including the White Sox have asterisks by their names.  The notation for these asterisks read, "late games not included."

This is most interesting since this issue of the CST has the label "Sports Final" on its front page.  Traditionally, Sports Final has always meant that the paper will not be issued until such time as all the games for at least the Chicago teams are finished and the results are reported on and the standings are correct.  However,  the CST has for years called editions that do not meet this standard either Sports Final of even more misleadingly, Late Sports Finals.

For the CST to call editions that do not have the latest scores for at least all of the Chicago teams a Sports Final is nothing short of fraudulent and shameful.

Raise Your Hand

Raise Your Hand is an organization that the Chicago Sun-Times's alleged education reporter Lauren Fitzpatrick sometimes mentions in her barely disguised propaganda pro-Mayor Rahm pieces.  In her latest effort, she describes RYH as being a "parent group."  If you look at the RYH website, you will find to your satisfaction that it offers pro-public school activists a wealth of resources that are needed to fight Rahm's efforts to destroy public education so that rich kids can continue to enjoy unfair advantages over the kids of the poor and the oppressed.

Don't hold your breath waiting for Fitzpatrick to start reporting objectively on public education in Chicago. She knows full well that its only a matter of tuime until the CST folds and when that happens, she will want Friends in High Places to provide her with economic succor.

Lauren Fitzpatrick is truly a Monica Lewinsky for our times.

The Paul Stepan Whitewash

The duplicitous duo of Maureen O'Donnell & Fran Spielman have struck again.  In their obituary of the evil shyster politico Paul Stepan that appeared in the August 13th CST, the scumbag was portrayed in such a way that you would never guess that he figured in almost every major scandal involving Democrats.  Stepan himself was such a fixer that he escaped from reaping his just desserts.

Paul Stepan was the absolute scum of the earth, period no matter what nonsense his journalistic enablers will tell you.

Chicago Sun-Times Steps Up to the Plate By Picking Up Free Agent Hub Arkush

The CST has been adding to its already outstanding Sports coverage lately.  Its most spectacular addition is that of legendary writer Hub Arkush.  Arkush is best known as the Editor/Publisher of the late, lamented Pro Football Weekly.  While it is true that the reason's for PFW's demise reveal Arkush as being a poor businessman, his brain and heart are still committed to superior sports coverage as shown by his work on WSCR 670 AM Chicago.

Rick Morrissey's Finest Hour

IN the August 6th CST Rick Morrissey delivered a smack down for the ages upon disgraced Yankees player Alex Rodriguez.  Morrissey compared A-Rod to such other losers as "Lindsay Lohan.  Or Justin Bieber who looks like a train wreck in its early stages."  Also from Morrissey, "  A-Rod is not normal, grounded or innocent."

All this goodness and much more from a columnist who all too often comes across as being some sort of print troll.

Richard Roeper Nailed the Lone Ranger

Richard Roeper is not one of the elite film critics around.  Hell, he is not even all that much of a movie reviewer.  However, in the case of the 2013 abomination "The Lone Ranger" he nailed it right on the head when he wrote that it is a "big mess" and a "train wreck."

Francine Knowles Covers Up for ObamaCare

In the August 3rd CST Francine Knowles wrote about the slow job growth without explaining the real reason for the economic malaise.  Under ObamaCare, 30 hours is considered full time employment if you are an employee who is considered as being full time, then your employer will be completely screwed once ObamaCare fully kicks in.  For instance, if a company employed 30 40 hour workers, it is now becoming a 40 30 hour workers firm.  This accounts for the anemic job growth and pathetic economic growth and the rise of part time jobs.

Indcredibly, Knowles wrote that in just July alone, length of average work week slipped 1/10th of an hour to 34.4 hours without explaining the reasons why.

CST Wants Chicago to Become Another Detroit

Even by the CST's standards, the editorial in the July 24th issue was pretty bizarre.  Despite the example of Detroit, the CST demanded massive tax increases just to save the jobs of wretched bureaucrats and alleged public school teachers whose poor performance is what's responsible for the poor performance of the Chicago Public Schools.

In other words, the CST wants ordinary decent working class folks to may massively higher taxes for the enrichment of yuppie scum.

Truly, Chicago is headed in the direction of becoming another Detroit.

CST Conveniently Leaves Out Part of the Dennis Farina Story

The Chicago Sun-Times has been running quite a bit of material about the late beloved actor Dennis Farina.   However, there is one thing that has been quite conveniently left out of the coverage:  Farina's politics were well to the right and he was a Republican.  This from a newspaper that has long published the political affiliation of GOP politicians who get into trouble while conveniently never mentioning it whenever Democrats are scandal afflicted.  There have even been times when  Democrats have become embroiled in scandal and the CST has misidentified them as being Republicans.

And to think that the CST calls itself an "independent newspaper" when in fact  it is partisan to the point of refusing to print the truth about the dearly departed.

CST Failed to Report on Chicagoans Opposing the Homosexual "Pride" Parade

The CST has seriously messed up its coverage of the homosexual wacko scene.  According to DNAinfo, city residents are completely fed up with the annual display of homosexual hatred of normal folks. The article by Serena Dai also documented the numerous crimes committed by lesbians on the so-called "Pride Day". However, the CST has failed to recognize that its continual pandering to the homosexuals is alienating it fro m the normal people of Illinois.  Consequently, it has failed to report on this remarkable topic.

If the CST should eventually die, its shameless pandering to the lesbians will be a major reason why.

CST Drops Book Coverage

In yet another blunder, the CST has just decided what little remains of its book reviews.  This is stupid because people who read newspapers are folks who love reading.  Such folks are keenly interested in reading books and magazines.  If publishers want to hold on to readers, then they need to offer coverage of the publishing scene.  Having no book reviews is a sure way to alienate such readers and hasten the day of no more CST.

And yet the CST leadership continues to believe that its readers are only interested in mindless entertainment and have no intellectual interests whatsoever.

MIchael Nagrant Deserts the Sun-Times

The late Pat Bruno's successor as the CST's main restaurant critic (the other is Thomas Witom who has not been seen in print in a long time), Michael Nagrant has just jumped ship.  He is going to the evil  Tribsters' lackluster Redeye rag.  The fact that Nagrant would stoop to the level of going to the Redeye instead of remaining at the CST speaks volumes of what he believes the CST's chances of surviving in Obama's economy are.

Lori Rackl Back from Europe

CST readers have noticed that TV writer Lori Rackl has been missing for some time and thought that perhaps her time was up.  Turns out that she has been vacationing in Europe, has returned and is getting back into the swing of writing for the CST.

Unusually Fair and Balanced PIece on Racial Divide Amongst Chicago Police.

In the June 30th CST, Frank Main wrote an unusually fair minded article about two police families, one white and the other black, who are at loggerheads.  At issue, should the brother of black cop Tyrone Sharp  be paroled for the 1970 murder of Officer Kenneth Kaner?  Usually, the CST would run a thinly veiled editorial about how racist and evil white people, especially copw are.  The CST would also insinuate that Bruce Sharp was tortured into confessing.

It would appear that now that the CST is in financial straits, it is being forced to operate in a fair/balanced manner to attract white support instead of its usually racially inflammatory machinations.  

CST Pushes Homosexual Marriage

To nobody's  surprise, the CST has been pushing the homosexual marriage line and has suppressed all dissenting points of view.

When the CST finally goes down for the count, this week may be remembered as when it jumped the shark for the paper's Christian readers.

The Chicago Sun-Times and its Pathetic Newspaper Unions

There is an alleged sports media expert named Paul Banks who, in collusion with the newspaper unions, attempted to instigate trouble for the Chicago Blackhawks  Saturday night.  As it happens, the Chairman of the Blackhawks, Rocky Wirtz, is a part owner of the Sun-Times.  The idea was that by having "mobilizers" harass hockey fans, then pressure could be placed on Wirtz to accede to the union's demands.

Well, it did not work.  The mobilizers failed to show up and the fans were able to enjoy a hockey outing without interference from the big bosses of the big labor unions.

The little guys finally won one!

Chris Fusco Missing from Facebook

The alleged "investigative reporter" Chris Fusco of the laughably misnamed "Watchdogs" team at the CST was for a long time the holder of his very own Facebook page.  Now, his FB page  has suddenly disappeared. One wonders if his tenure at the CST is heading for an untimely end.

What's the Point?

Nowadays, practically every CST writer has email addresses and/or Twitter handle by their name.  However, in the experiences of all too many readers, messages sent to the writers are never acknowledged let alone replied to.  Why is this?  What is the point of putting up these addresses/handles if the writers refuse to communicate with the readers who take the time to contact them?

Lori Rackl on Her Way Out as TV "Critic"?

In yesterday's CST, the responsibility for writing up the life and career of actor James Gandolfini fell to Film Critic Richard Roeper.  This despite the fact that Gandolfini was primarily a TV actor and not in prominent roles in too many films.  This was reflected in Roeper's confning Gandolfini's film career to but one paragraph.

Perhaps not so coincidentally, the alleged TV "Critic" for the CST, Lori Rackl, has been missing from the CST.  While in the past her column had run as often as four times a week, lately it has been not much more than once a week.  Her only offering this week was this Politically Correct takedown of Lifetime's new  "Devious Maids"series.

It is not much of a secret that the CST is disatisified with Roeper's performance especially in retaining movie buff readers in the wake of Roger Ebert's death. Perhaps Roeper's Gandolfini write up is a harbinger of Roeper being moved over to the TV Critic spot with a new movie reviewer being brought in.  As for Rackl, her days appear numbered.

If so, that would be further evidence that the CST management is clueless as ever.   Rackl had been an outstanding, not to mention award winning,  health/medical straight news reporter before the CST moved her over to a travel writing spot in 2007.  Rackl excelled as a travel writer, eventually moving up to become Travel Editor.  Then in 2011, she was moved to TV Critic despite having zero background in that area.  That she has not especially well in the TV reviewing role is what happens when you take a fish out of water and just let it flop around.  The CST would be better off if Rackl was restored to either  some sort of straight news reporting spot or be restored to the travel writing gig.

However, given  recent history,  if Rackl is finally removed from the TV position the most likely outcome is that she will likely be placed in yet another positon for which she is not well suited for or just simply downsized altogether.

Such is life at the CST these days.

Dump Mona Charen

In one of its worst decisions as of late, the CST dumped libertarian columnist  Jacob Sullum in favor of cheap GOP party line hack Mona Charen.  Just how bad is Charen?  Well,  Charen trashed President Obama for his NSA telephone monitoring.  This is most interesting in light of the fact that blogger Debbie Schlussel  has pointed out that Obama's NSA telephone operation was/is far less invasive than George W. Bush's wiretapping.

As it happens, Charen like the Drudge Report, Rush Limbaugh the Tea Party and countless other hypocrites had no problem whatsoever supporting Bush's program.  And yet they pretend to believe that Obama's program is a basic threat to American civil liberties.

Mona Charen is both a fraud and a partisan hypocrite.  As such, she has no business being on the CST opinion pages.  That being the case, the CST should drop Charen in favor of either bringing Sullum back or make arrangements with Schlussel to write a regular column exclusively for the CST.  Given Schlussel's trademark honesty and principles, this might be the best option for the CST to pursue.

Thinly Veiled Editorializing

Today the CST, in its national/international news page, ran a thinly veiled editorial claiming that the House GOP has only ulterior motives in addressing abortion.  The CST labeled it "anti-abortion" and claimed, without any substantiation, that it was done solely to shore up incumbent protection in the 2014 GOP primaries.

Apparently, the CST with its top-heavy Democrat staff failed to even consider the possibility that the reason why the GOP took this action was because they actually believe in the pro-life cause.

The CST has utterly failed to report on this or any of the other Blockbusters closings.  Ditto for KMart, Sears etc.  If the CST finally goes kaput, then this will be one of the big reasons why.

On June 3rd, Justin Breen @dnainfo_breen of DNAinfo reported on Chicago's Best host Ted Brunson's  resigination. Brunson's report was both thorough and concise. Ever since then, the alleged "TV Critic" for the CST,  Lori Rackl,  has failed to write about this development,  Why does the CST persist in having its own TV writer when there are so many syndicated TV writers out there who do a much better job of covering TV and do so at a lower cost to the paper?

Tuesday's Tidbit

The CST has once again run a drivel 4 page insert bragging about how high its circulation is.  Given the CST's history of circulation inflating scandals, its likely that there is one last scandal waiting to be exposed before the CST finally expires.  Its also worth noting that although Rocky Wirtz claims to have nothing to do with the CST's operations, the CST's Grid thingy always seems to run Rocky's ugly mug in its advertisements along with the goody-goody CST Blackhawks coverage.

Almost two weeks ago, Wendell Hutson of DNAinfo made a significant report regarding Tio Hardiman and the significant community support that he was gaining over the flap that occurred from his being removed from CeaseFire.  To this very day, the CST has utterly failed to bring any of this info to the attention of is readers.  Instead, it is more interesting in perverting the news to slant it to aid and abet its lover boy Rahm.

Fraudulent Boilermaker's Union Boss Obituary

     If all you knew about ex-Boilermaker's union boss Michael Wood was the guff from Maureen O'Donnell's write up about him, you would never suspect that this particular union was/is under Mafia domination or that Woods himself was a big time crook.  Wood himself was a thug who led a gang of other thugs who beat up on union dissidents and whistle blowers.

     O'Donnell would have you believe that Wood was some sort of civil rights supporter because he allegedly hired a single black secretary.  In reality, the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers was/is one of the worst unions when it comes to control of the union shop environment to keep blacks out of the workplace.  Wood was a real piece of work.

     O'Donnell is just another CST hack writer, but this is low even by her standards.
